About Me

My photo
Hey! Welcome to The Lilly Pad! I post about random house things like decorating projects, crafts, and stuff. Also, I'll try to let you know where to find things that I write about at different price points. I very obviously have no training (as if I needed to mention that) and I take really crummy pictures, but I'm always on the hunt for deals and good stuff to put in my house.

Cheap Cheese Danish

Okay, I've never posted anything about cooking because I don't really do much of it.  However, I made an adapted version of a sopapilla recipe that I found online and ended up with the easiest, cheapest, delishiest cheese danish recipe.

For  those of you who know how to work your oven, you've probably tried this before, but for this girl, I thought I was Betty freaking Crocker tonight :)

All you need is:
3 cans of crescent rolls
2 packages of cream cheese
1 cup of sugar
1 tablespoon of vanilla
2 tablespoons of butter (melted)

Using a 9 x 13 dish, I spread 1 1/2 packages of crescent rolls in the bottom and kind of mushed them together (technical term) with my fingers.  I them combined the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla in a mixing bowl with my hands (don't judge me...I've never pulled the trigger on a Kitchen Aid mixer and my hand held mixer broke a couple of moths ago).  I spread the mixture on the crescent rolls and topped with the remaining crescent rolls.  I then brushed the top with the melted butter.  I'm a big girl so this is what we do, but skinny girls could leave the butter off (although you probably wouldn't eat this anyway :).  Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes.

Seriously, it's the easiest Saturday morning breakfast for under $10 or so and it will feed  the entire family.

Has anyone else tried any super easy and yummy recipes lately?  Seriously, the easier, the better for me :)

Pillow Winner

And the winner is Catherine

Your green trellis pillow will be on its way this week!!

Everyone else, thanks for the comments!  I'll give another pillow away again soon!

By the way, the way I picked the winner was to assign a number to all of the comments in the order in which they appeared.  I counted comments on both the blog and Facebook (blog first and then fb) in chronological order.  The more you commented, the luckier you were :). I then put the number of comments (31 total) in the random number generator that I found online and 31 was the number chosen.

I wanted everyone to win, by the way!

And The Winner Is

Well, I've decided that there are no losers here :)  In the interest of honesty, I have to tell you that the pink and white suzani-esque fabric was the fan favorite, but I've decided not to use it...kind of.  It makes absolutely no difference to me which fabric I use, so I'll just let the winner winner chicken dinner decide!

So, now comes the fun part...  If you want to get a cute throw pillow, comment here or facebook if that's easier for you.  I will use a random number generator to pick the winner (by the way, I looked those up the other day and it blows my little mind how they choose nyumbers using complicated algorithms and stuff (that's a technical mathematics term)...weird, I though it was just like pulling a number out of a hat).

I will choose a winner Saturday at 5 so I can make it on Sunday.

Bonne Chance!

Hahaha!  I saw this the other day & think it's pretty damn funny :)  Happy Friday!!

Who's The Leader???

Interesting, very interesting...

So far, #4 is in the lead.  Keep voting and I'll let you know the final winner winner chicken dinner on Friday.

Your Leader

Monday, we'll figure out who gets a sweet new pillow!

Sa-weet

Okay, so I've decided that it would be very nice to do a giveaway.  No, I don't have any sponsors or anything crazy like that, but I do have some awesome fabric sitting around and you know I've been making pillows like a crazy person (you know, for that pillow party...I'm seriously going to try it).

So, first things first.  I need to pick a fabric to use.  In order to vote, comment on this post with your fabric choice.  If you don't like any of them, oh well.  You can make your own pillow :)

I will tally votes at the end of the week.  I don't know why I'm so excited to give something away, but I'm pretty pumped!  By the way, you can vote every day if you want.  Why not?  Basically, I'm just making a pillow for a friend :)

May the best fabric win!

Long Time, No Post

Hey, everyone!!  It's been a whole week since I've posted, but I have been super busy and, well, this isn't priority numero uno.

After I posted last week, I decided that I am going to go for the painted door :)  At this point, I'm on my fourth coral.  You know, too light, too dark, too much of a blue undertone, too red...  I'm hoping this last one is a keeper.  I think it's going to be kind of drastic, but it is only paint and I can change it back if I don't like it.

I've also been moving stuff around my house that has needed to be moved since we moved in a year ago.  It's crazy how long it takes to get settled.  Maybe this house will be done in twenty or thirty years, but probably not.

The other day, I decided to move my breakfast room table around a little.  I changed out the chairs with some that I picked up a while ago.  I decided to change the burlap seats to KWID Imperial Trellis and Waverly Spot On (which might be my favorite fabric...which is saying a lot for me).  The change isn't drastic, but it's a little more cheerful to look at :)

Also, I have been making new pillows with reckless abandon.  I love buying fabric and love the tedium of sewing at the end of the day with a beer in my hand :)  I'm thinking I might put them in a local consignment shop because they're so damn cute (I think) or maybe have a pillow party (you know, like tupperware, but pillows).  Or maybe I'll just give pillows away to people who read my blog :)

As a little no kidding aside, I bought a a sewing machine a few years ago and it never really worked right so I went out and bought another one that still didn't work perfectly.  Long story short, I read the manual a couple of years too late and had been putting my needle in backwards.  Seriously, what an idiot (now with two working sewing machines)!

Colors, Colors Everywhere

So, I've been thinking a lot about color lately.  It's kind of weird, but I think about color A LOT.  When it comes to my house, I often have a really tough time with color...especially paint.  I know what I want, but I have a hard time making my vision come to fruition with color.  No kidding, I have completely painted my kitchen twice in the year that I've lived in my house and I currently have new colors painted on the wall as I type.  The crazy thing is, the colors are all so similar, but I just haven't been able to get it just right yet.  Hopefully the third time will be the charm.  My husband thinks I'm crazy as shizz, but when it's not right, it's just not right.

Is anyone else as color conscious as I am when it comes to their walls?

Anyway, in the spirit of thinking about color, I have decided to show off some of my favorite colors this week.  I wanted to start with coral because I think that it might very well be my favorite.  I would actually love a coral front door, but my husband couldn't disagree more :)

Target (pronounced tar-jay)

I'm not sure if any of you have been to Target lately, but I went the other day and found some cute stuff.  That Sabrina Soto really knows what she's doing (said in the same way that Reese's friend Lurlynn says "That Gloria Vanderbilt really knows what she's doing" in the bar scene in Sweet Home Alabama...I think that's how it goes, but I'm probably way off :)

Anyway, Target has some cute stuff in right now.  I always love when they have stuff that doesn't look like Target stuff (obviously, no offense).

I ended up taking home two chevron lamp shades the other day.  I love them and have been moving them all over my house, but I think they're going to live in the bedroom.

They were $20 each if you're thinking about getting your own pair.

I also thought these things were pretty cute.  They're all from Sabrina Soto's collection at Target :)

The table is super cute and would look great painted bright pink or green or orange...or you could just leave it the color it is.

So what do you think?? Let me know if you find anything else there that you like or of you decide you need some chevron shades, too.

Happy Friday, y'all!  I hope everyone has a GREAT WEEKEND!

Red Egg

There is a furniture company out of High Point that I really, really love called Red Egg.  I have a buffet from the Double Happiness collection that I found last year when I moved into my new house.  It has a few scratches so it was super discounted, which is fine by me.  My table is cream, but it comes in juicy colors like coral, orange, citron, and turquoise.  Also, it's all made here in North Carolina :)

(Yes, my drapes only go to the bottom of the window and not to the floor.  It's acceptable, but not ideal...but they were only like $8 per panel so it works for now.)

Stella

Here are some other amazing pieces from their collection.

My Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades

Last night a couple of other girls and I got together for our first attempt at a craft night.  Basically, a couple of girls came to my house with small craft things that they have been meaning to do for some time and just haven't gotten around to doing.  We all sat around my dining room table, chatted, and worked on different things.

I decided to attempt to monogram lamp shades for Lil's room.  I saw this picture on Pinterest (of course) the other day and decided that it seemed easy enough and could be done in a couple of hours.

The shade on Pinterest used felt for the monogram, but I thought it would be a lot easier for a first attempt just to use paint.

First, I used a container to make a circle on plain printer paper and then I just drew a (kind of wonky) monogram in the circle.  I used a Sharpie to outline the monogram and then taped it to the inside of the lamp shade.  I traced the monogram with pencil on the outside of the shade and then painted it.  I used acrylic paint because I already had it.  My shades are not perfect, but they were an easy project for craft night :)

The lamp bases were from Pier 1 several years ago that I spray painted pink.

Are any of you guys and dolls up to anything fun?

Gotta Love the Grasscloth

I hope everyone's New Year has gotten off to a fantastic start!  Jeff and I have started jalking or wogging with the Couch to 5k program.  So far, so good, but it's only been 3 weeks and I've already pinned inspirational running quotes on Pinterest to keep me excited.  Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE my in shape 18 year old body, but I don't really LOVE to get my fat booty up and run (hence the fat booty).

It's been forever since I've posted anything.  I haven't been up to much around the house other than trying to organize my shizz, so there really hasn't been much to write home about.

One thing that I do have coming up is getting grasscloth wallpaper hung in my living room.  I am a HUGE fan of grasscloth and I think that it really gives you a l lot of bang for your buck.  It comes in a plethora of fun colors, but I've only ever hung the tan, traditional kind because I change my mind way too often to commit to a funky color.

In my last house, I hung my own grasscloth.  It was a little tricky because it's so heavy.  I had to thumb tack the paper after I glued it to keep it from sliding down the wall.  It looked okay, but definitely not at all professional (not even close).  Jeff still makes fun of me about it and has said that there were probably still tacks in the wall when we moved.  There were definitely staples in the wall because I stapled corners down that had started to pop up...I know, I know (but it worked and the texture of the paper hid the staples).

Here are some other pictures that I found.
